I am so sorry. It’s so hard, this in between, having the physical person there but only that and not what makes him your dad. Sending compassion and grace 🙏🏼
Mother changes. Daughter changes. Friendships change. Weather, seasons, ideas, jobs, etc etc etc. what doesn’t change is change. You have been adapting to all this change with courage, honesty and love.
This is a beautiful post starting with grief for before and expectations, transitions, changes, and growing your agility, Susan. Happy one-year posting on Substack! You've shared SO much, and the greatest piece is your mindset shift. It's interesting to see it laid out like this.
We, too, unlike those days caring for Dad, these days we do the appointments and then have extended catch-up on sleep & rest days.
Don't forget you are enabling her to do all this, your energy, the plans you have....all of it is extending...everything.
Thank you for your lovely words, shout out & hugs, and gratitude. I appreciate you and being with you on our journey of caregiving.
Thanks, Victoria 🙏🏼 it’s easy for me to forget I’m getting older, too, and all of this takes a different toll or level of energy for all involved. Change is definitely a constant and having milestones or anniversaries to look back at is always interesting.
Heart to heart <3 Cheers to acceptance.
Today is Father's Day and I can't bring myself to pull together a cohesive post because my dad is and isn't here.

BIG HUG. Hear you.
It just is. The best advice, Susan!
